“Dr. Dean” has been a thought leader in the procurement, facility management, and construction industries for greater than two decades—a respected adviser and mentor within the association, the public sector, and academic circles. He is considered one of the leading experts and researchers in performance-based systems. Dean is the founder of Information Management Theory (IMT) and is the creator of the Performance Information Procurement System, also known as PIPS. His theories and systems have been put into practice on thousands of projects and have changed entire countries from Botswana to the Netherlands, teaching the principles of Best Value Procurement, transforming the way procurements in construction and other services are managed to minimize decision making and risk, helping vendors and clients maximize the benefits of their projects.
Dr. Kashiwagi will educate us in how facility management can cut costs by 30%, increase value and performance, play an important role in the C-suite, and dominantly increase the importance of FM. An Air Force project engineer veteran with a PhD in industrial engineering, he began teaching at ASU in 1992, receiving (among many distinguished awards) a Fulbright scholarship in 2008. He has just recently retired as a professor in the ASU School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, and now directs Kashiwagi Solution Model Inc. Dean has been a powerful force within IFMA, receiving its Distinguished Educator Award in 2009, and has spoken at countless IFMA chapters, conferences, and other facility management-related events.
